Buying guide

How to choose an outdoor shower

An outdoor shower lets you rinse off sand, sunscreen and pool chlorine before you come inside. When you compare outdoor showers for sale, the right one comes down to four things: how it mounts, what water you can run to it, who will use it, and how close it sits to salt water or a pool.

Complete outdoor shower kits vs. separate fixtures

You can build an outdoor shower from separate fixtures (a shower head, a valve and pipe), or buy a complete outdoor shower kit where the head, valve and body come as one unit. Every model here is a complete unit with the shower head and valve already built in, so you only need to bring water to it and mount it. That makes them faster to install and easier to match than piecing together separate outdoor shower fixtures.

Freestanding or wall-mounted outdoor shower?

A freestanding outdoor shower stands on its own, so it can go anywhere you can run water. Freestanding shower panels are flat stainless columns with the mixer, rainfall head and often a hand shower, foot spout or body jets built in. They bolt to a concrete pad with the supply lines coming up from below, which makes them the most popular pool shower for decks and patios. Pedestal outdoor showers are slimmer posts with a shower head on top and often a foot shower near the base, and they suit beach paths, docks and garden spots.

A wall-mounted outdoor shower fixes to an exterior wall, so it takes up the least space beside a house, cabana or pool house. For a beach house or a dock, a tall beach shower tower gives everyone room to rinse off sand.

Hot and cold, or cold only?

Most showers here use a hot and cold mixer valve, so you need both supply lines at the shower. If you only have a cold line, pick a cold-only model or add a mixing valve to send the shower tempered water. Push-button models shut off on their own after a timed flow, which helps at public pools, rentals and HOA amenities where taps get left running.

Why a stainless steel outdoor shower should be 316

Salt air and pool chlorine are hard on ordinary stainless steel. 316 stainless has added molybdenum, which gives it much better resistance to both, so it is the grade to choose for a beach shower or an outdoor pool shower. Most models in this collection are 316 or 316L. Browse all 316 stainless outdoor showers.

ADA and public use

For public pools, hotels, campgrounds and rentals, the models labeled ADA include a handheld shower on a hose so seated users can reach the spray. Check your local code and the spec sheet for mounting heights before you order, or send us your plan and we will help you check it.

Plan the base and the drain

Freestanding showers need a level, solid base to bolt to, and every outdoor shower needs somewhere for the water to go, such as a gravel bed, a drain or a slope away from the house. Rules vary by area, so check before you pour. Each product page lists the pipe heights and fittings for that model. Finish the setup with a foot wash station or outdoor shower accessories.

Before you buy an outdoor shower

  1. Water supply

Hot and cold lines for a mixer valve, a cold line only, or tempered water from a mixing valve.

  2. Mounting

A level concrete pad for freestanding showers, or a solid exterior wall for wall-mounted models.

  3. Drainage

A gravel bed, drain or slope that carries water away from the house. Check your local rules.

  4. Who will use it

Public pools, hotels and rentals may need an ADA model with a hand shower on a hose.

Outdoor shower questions

What comes with an outdoor shower kit?
Every outdoor shower we sell is a complete unit: the shower head, the valve and the stainless body or rail come together, and many models add a hand shower, foot wash spout or body jets. You supply the water lines and a base or wall to mount it on. Check each product page for the exact parts, fittings and mounting hardware included.
Do outdoor showers need hot water?
No. Plenty of outdoor showers run on cold water only, especially at the beach or the pool. Models with a hot and cold mixer need both supply lines to give you warm water. If you only have a cold line, choose a cold-only model, or have a plumber add a mixing valve to feed the shower tempered water.
What is a pool shower?
A pool shower is an outdoor shower set up next to the pool so swimmers can rinse off before and after they swim. Freestanding shower panels and pedestal showers are the most common pool showers because they bolt to the deck with the supply lines run underneath.
Can I install an outdoor shower myself?
Many handy owners do. You need a solid base or wall, the right supply lines and a plan for drainage. We recommend a licensed plumber for hot water connections and to meet local code. Each product page lists the pipe heights and fittings for that model.
What is the difference between 316 and 304 stainless steel?
316 stainless steel contains molybdenum, which makes it far more resistant to salt and chlorine than 304. That is why 316 is called marine grade, and why it is the better choice near the ocean or a pool. See our 316 stainless outdoor showers.
How do I winterize an outdoor shower?
If you get freezing weather, shut off the water to the shower, open the valve to drain the lines and leave it open through the winter. A protective cover helps keep the finish clean in the off season. Check the install guide for your model for any extra steps.
Do your outdoor showers for sale ship free?
Yes. Shipping is free on every outdoor shower, and most orders ship directly from the manufacturer's U.S. warehouse with tracking. We only collect sales tax on orders shipped to Georgia.
